Jason Hartley is lecturer in criminology at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. He is a former police officer with 23 years of experience, and has trained personnel for deployment in Timor Leste, the Solomon Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan. Jason specializes in, and has published on engagement with Muslim communities, Indigenous Polynesian approaches to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism, and Asian Organised Crime. Jason also completed a community internship in Hebron on the West Bank.

Rationale
The Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership introduces students to a broad range of police leadership technical and theoretical concepts. Graduates will be equipped with skills to prepare them for further study and will be able to demonstrate an ability to apply a body of knowledge across a range of real-world contexts. Graduates will also have developed skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication at a postgraduate level.
Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Police Leadership may find employment in a range of professional and educational contexts, policing organisations, police leadership, and cybercrime organisations. This course also allows flexibility for students who may wish to start with a shorter postgraduate course before committing to a Masters program or for students who need to exit the Masters earlier than intended, due to unforeseen reasons.

Admission Criteria
Domestic Students
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline and at least two years relevant policing experience in a managerial or leadership role.
Applicants must submit a copy of their CV with a cover letter outlining how they meet the above criteria, or equivalent.
Applicants are also required to provide a recent police check (not more than 90 days old).
International Students
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline and at least two years relevant policing experience in a managerial or leadership role. International student applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) of 6.5, with a score of not less than 6.0 in any of the four skill areas, or equivalent.
Note: International students must hold a valid student visa. There are numerous conditions that apply to a student visa. A holder of a student visa may not work, paid or unpaid, for more than 40 hours in any fortnight during semester time. Special or Alternative Admission Arrangements
Special admission pathways are also open for educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. These applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis with Recognition of Prior Learning, professional accreditations and the provision of a portfolio of work for entry to micro credential and single units.
Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes. Requests for credit for previous study or RPL should be submitted with the Application Form. Students who have successfully completed accredited study or courses at recognised tertiary institutions may apply for a Transfer of Credit. A certified copy of an official transcript detailing studies undertaken must be submitted with the Credit Transfer and RPL Application Form.
