Jason Hartley is lecturer in criminology at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. He is a former police officer with 23 years of experience, and has trained personnel for deployment in Timor Leste, the Solomon Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan. Jason specializes in, and has published on engagement with Muslim communities, Indigenous Polynesian approaches to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism, and Asian Organised Crime. Jason also completed a community internship in Hebron on the West Bank.

Rationale
The Graduate Certificate in Police Leadership introduces students to a broad range of technical and theoretical concepts. Graduates will be equipped with knowledge and skills for application in a range of real-world contexts. Graduates will also develop skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication at a postgraduate level.
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Police Leadership may find employment in security and policing organisations, as well as other professional and educational contexts that require skills in leadership, research and critical thinking. This course also allows flexibility for students who may wish to start with a short postgraduate course before committing to a Masters or Graduate Diploma or for students who need to exit the Masters or Graduate Diploma earlier than intended, due to unforeseen personal or professional reasons.
Course learning outcomes

Admission Criteria
Domestic Students
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or overseas equivalent) in any field.
Professional Entry
At least five years relevant professional experience, including two years in a management position.
International Students
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or overseas equivalent) in any field. International student applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) of 6.0, with a score of not less than 5.5 in any of the four skill areas, or equivalent.
Professional Entry

Special or Alternative Admission Arrangements
Special admission pathways are also open for educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. These applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis with Recognition of Prior Learning, professional accreditations and the provision of a portfolio of work for entry to micro credential and single units.
Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes. Requests for credit for previous study or RPL should be submitted with the Application Form. Students who have successfully completed accredited study or courses at recognised tertiary institutions may apply for a Transfer of Credit. A certified copy of an official transcript detailing studies undertaken must be submitted with the Credit Transfer and RPL Application Form.
