MCL404 Violent Extremism and Hate Crimes
The focus of this unit is on people who resort to violently extreme acts against those who are different to them in creed, colour, or race. The unit examines the seeds of hate that grow in all humanity and how to limit hate’s potential to turn into violent actions. This unit is predicated on the premise that leadership is not just about managing others. The first responsibility of leadership is to manage oneself ethically. The aim of the unit is to develop an in-depth reflective foundation of the genesis of violent extremism and its multi-factorial trajectories of hate as the basis from which to initiate effective counterterrorism strategies, policies, and governance.
