POLICY
This policy details the criteria and processes for academic staff to be added to the Global Leadership Institute’s (GLI) Academic Staff Register.
SCOPE
All academic staff
PRINCIPLES
GLI ensures that:
- the Academic Staff Register online, secure database includes: qualifications; relevant industry and professional experience; current (within the last five years) teaching, research, and scholarship; units approved to teach; and Higher Degree Research (HDR) supervision training and experience;
- the Academic Dean is responsible for approving and maintaining the Academic Staff Register;
- academic staff are qualified in a relevant field to at least one Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) qualification level higher than the unit being taught (AQF+1) or demonstrate equivalent professional experience. Guest or associate lecturers under supervision, professional experience supervisors, and tutors under supervision are exempt;
- Unit Coordinators are permanent staff members who are AQF+1 to the unit up to AQF 9, or AQF 10 for HDR courses;
- academic staff remain current in relevant scholarship that informs their teaching;
- academic staff who are not AQF+1 may be approved if professional experience meets the learning needs of students;
- academic staff report teaching, research, scholarship, professional development, and community engagement activities in their Annual Academic Appraisal and the data is analysed as part of the Academic Dean’s Annual Academic Report to Academic Board and Governing Board.
PROFESSIONAL EQUIVALENCE CRITERIA

An adjunct or honorary position may be withdrawn by the Academic Dean at any time if it is in the best interest of GLI. The person will be informed of the withdrawal in writing.
